The Finnish-Russian Cross-Border University (CBU) International Relations Programme Spring School 2010 took place in Petrozavodsk, the Republic of Karelia (Russia), on 17-21 May 2010. The event was hosted by the Petrozavodsk State University, in cooperation with the University of Tampere (Finland) and the State University of St. Petersburg (Russia).
The CBU Spring School was organized jointly in cooperation with the International Summer School in Karelia 2010 (ISSK'10) which took place on 10-16 May 2010 in Petrozavodsk.
The event brought together 19 Russian, Finnish, Swedish, Italian and American CBU students of International Relations; ten studying at St. Petersburg, five at Tampere, and four at Petrozavodsk.
The Spring School comprised diverse types of tuition events: lectures, group work, exam, as well as a foreign policy-making simulation exercise. The lectures, given by prof. D. Lanko from the State University of St. Petersburg and Dr. M. Vähä-Sipilä from the University of Tampere, concentrated on the key events and concepts in Finnish-Russian relations, the dynamics of continuity and change in international relations between Finland and Russia as well as the concepts, issues and dynamics related to trans-border cooperation, emerging territoriality of the EU and political spatialities in the European North. The foreign policy-analysis colloquium, organised by prof. Lanko, provided the CBU students with an opportunity to participate in a thrilling simulation game of Russian foreign policy decision-making.
